Comté Cheese Toastie Recipe

This recipe will take your humble toastie to new heights!

  1. For harissa butter, combine 1 tsp harissa with 1 block of softened Le Conquérant butter (this will make plenty – save the rest for another time/ see below for storage!).
  2. Butter both sides of bread. Add freshly grated La Couronne Comté and sliced gherkins.
  3. Grill in a toastie maker until golden or fry in a pan – approx 2 mins on each side. Rotating the toastie will make it extra crunchy.
  4. Cut in half and sprinkle with sea salt. Enjoy!
  5. For the leftover butter: Lay a square of plastic wrap on a work surface and add the butter. Form the butter into a log, then roll up the plastic to encase the butter and twist the ends to seal. The butter will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for up to 2 months.
