Classic French washed rind cheese – despite the pungent aroma, it has a soft fudgy texture with a deliciously mild creamy finish.

Benchmark Soft Washed Rind Cheeses of France
Episode 4, from Season 3
Ah, there’s nothing like the evocative smell of washed-rind cheeses to bring back memories of a visit to France. In this episode, Will travels to the misty Vosges Mountains of Alsace, the undulating green countryside of Normandy, and the pretty village of Epoisse in Burgundy to look at four benchmark cheeses: Munster, Pont l’Eveque, Livarot and Epoisse. These luscious and stinky cheeses have a long history but, until recently, were threatened with extinction. As Will finds, their growing resurgence is largely due to the vision and hard work of a few very passionate dairy owners.
