Netherlands – Boerenhaas Cheeses, Gouda & Edam

Episode 7, from Season 3

Here’s an interesting fact: the Netherlands is the second largest European cheese exporter after France, yet it’s famous for just two cheeses: Edam and Gouda. Will visits the town of Edam to get a glimpse of what the cheese looks like before it's covered in red wax, then attends a Slow Food show in Rotterdam, where he discovers some interesting traditional cheeses that the Dutch like to keep for themselves. After learning how real farmhouse Gouda and its cousins are made, Will travels to the beautiful island of Texel to look at a cheese that was once coloured green…with sheep droppings!
